Intensive until the last point

Brazilian Players enjoyed the win
It was the most intense match, which was held on Saturday in the Palasport in Bassano del Grappa. Brazil and the U.S. gave nothing and it took an hour and 46 minutes, until Brazil was allowed to celebrate the 3-1 (27-25, 25.19, 25-27, 25-19).

For Brazil, a small consolation after missing the round of the best eight nations to have achieved at least ninth. The U.S. team can be pleased in spite of the defeat at having it done better with a tenth place than it was two years ago (15th place).

In the first set, the U.S. had earned a comfortable lead with 21-14. But the South Americans took the point by point, fought off a set point (23-24), and ultimately won the set 27-25.

Three more errors made the U.S. team coach in the second set and also had to insert four block points. Indeed, Brazil had it easier to book the set with 25-19.

The third set was already Brazil also decreased significantly (20-23). But instead to enter the last two points, began a nail-biter: match point for Brazil at 24-23, 24-24, second match point at 25-24, but in the end were glad the U.S. boys (27-25).

24 minutes later the match was then decided. The players of Brazil coach Percy Oncken had more power and at the end of 8-7, 16-14 and 21-15 they got to win the set with 25-19. The last two points in the Palasport in Bassano completed Thiago Melo de Araujo.

Best scorer for Brazil was Ary de Souza, having 18 points, including 14 attacks, three blocks and one ace. For the U.S. boys Maurice Torres made 22 points (17 attacks, three blocks and two aces).
