Iran secures spot in the semi finals

Iranian players celebrating the victory over Tunisia

Five Tunisian early errors gave Iran the lead 8-6 in the first set. Two blocks by Faezi and pair of spikes of Ghafour contributed to a 16-9 advantage for Iran at the second technical stop. Ghafour recorded five points and Mirzajanpour added four of his production for the 25-16 triumph.

The spikes of Besbes carried Tunisia to an 8-7 lead in the second set. Ghafour broke a tie at 11-all, but Ben Othmen and Ben Abdallah handed Tunisia the lead only to see Ghafour spiking for the tie. It was Ben Abdallah who finally put his side in front 16-15 at the second technical time-out. Block by Sammoud and spike of Ben Abdallah contributed to open the gap to 20-16. At 23-20 after an attack by Iran’s Fayazi, Tunisia called a time-out. Besbes’ attack was wide and Iran continued closing in but the long serve of Salafzoon allowed Tunisia to reach set-point 24-21. The block of Agrebi earned Tunisia the win 25-21.

Four attacks of Mirzajanpour towed Iran to an 8-7 lead in the third set. At 10-10, Besbes gave Tunisia the lead but Mirzajanpour answered back. Tunisia benefited from several Iranian errors and Agrebi served one ace for Tunisian 14-11 lead. Iran bounced back when Fayazi, Mirzajanpour and Faezi hit consecutive spikes to tie at 14. One error of Tunisia earned Iran the lead. Besbes tied at 15-all, but then served long and Iran took the lead 16-15. A couple of Tunisian attacks missed by inches and Fayazi and two blocks of Salafzoon and Bagherpour sent Iran to a comfortable zone and the eventual win 25-18.

In the fourth set, Iran jumped to an 8-4 lead when Tunisia team appeared confused and committed several unforced errors. Then Fayazi and Ghafour caught fire and looked unstoppable as Iran went on to the second pause with a 16-8 lead. Iran won the wide open set by score of 25-13.
