Iran took a 4-2 lead with two spikes of Mirzajanpour but Spain tied up with spike and block by Borja Ruiz. Bagherpour blocked after one Spaniard error and spike and ace of Ghafour gave Iran the 8-4 advantage. Iranians Tariverdi and Ghafour contributed heavily to maintain the difference while B. Ruiz kept Spain in the set. One ace by Ghafour led Iran to a 16-10 advantage. When play resumed Ghafour hammered another missile ace and later closed the set 25-15 with a cannon-shot spike.
Spain started with a spike by Francisco Ruiz and was in front 8-7 behind the offense of lefty Almansa and B. Ruiz. Ghafour and Tarivardi gave Iran the lead 9-8 and later the gap widened to 14-11 following ace by Tariverdi and block by Faezi. Iran arrived to the second pause with a comfortable 16-12 lead on the shoulders of Ghafour’s block and spike. Mirzajanpour and Salafzoon were the main Iranian weapons the rest of the set which finished 25-17 with spike by Tariverdi.
Spain took the lead 8-4 in the third set when F. Ruiz scored with four spikes. Iran tied at 10-all with two consecutive spikes of Ghafour, but Spain answered with kills from Baos and B. Ruiz. The Ruiz combo helped to improve the Spain’s advantage to 14-10 and the score was 16-11 at the second stop. Spain expanded the gap to 19-13 and Iran called for time-out. When play resumed Iran scored with block by Bagherpour and spike by Fayazi forcing a time-out of Spain. Another block by Bagherpour and ace by Fayazi cut the lead even more, but Spain recovered via block by Bugallo and spike of Baos. Almansa closed the set with a smash from the right side for the win 25-17.
Iran relied on strong blocking led by Faezi and the spikes of Ghafour for an 8-4 lead in the fourth set. Several Iranian errors allowed Spain to tie up at 10-10 following two consecutive spikes of F. Ruiz. Iranian Fayzi broke the 12-12 tie with spike and ace and his side was in front 16-14 at the second technical time-out. One powerful spike of Mirzajanpour increased the margin to 19-15 and Iran went on to take the set 25-17.
