MEXICALI, Mexico, August 20, 2007.- Russia downed Tunisia in 64 minutes by scores of 25-23, 25-17, 25-19 relying on their powerful serves during Day One of Pool H in the Round for places 9-16.
The Russians recorded 8 aces during the match doubling the total of the African team.
In the first set, Tunisia resisted against the strong European squad but it was little what they could do the rest of the way as Russia dominated by wide margin.
Artem Volvich and Ruslan Moskvin led Russia with 13 and 11 points with three and two blocks respectively. Alexey Yashchishin and Sergey Burtsev contributed 9 tallies apiece while Dmitry Scherbinin chipped in 8.
In the first set, Tunisia battled hard behind the spikes of Captain Elyes Karamosly combined with the Russian mistakes, but at the key moments the good blocking carried out Russia to the victory.
The threesome of Volvich, Yashchishin and Scherbinin proved to be too strong and Russia cruised to an easy victory.
In the third set, Tunisia presented an even battle until halfway but then again the Russian dominated with their better experience.
