2007 FIVB Boys' Youth World Championship

Match Description

Brazil was too strong for Egypt: 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-23) in 88 minutes

Brazil beat Egypt and qualifies to second round

Brazil had the first wind to lead the set using their strong front line led by the middle blocker Najari Carvalho, but quickly Egypt came to the match deploying their solid block of Ahmed Mohamed and then they continued putting pressure to the South American champions until 18-14 and 23-20. But the boys from Brazil used all their attack powers through Mauricio Silva to win the set 25-21.

The second set showed a dominance of Brazil who used the strong spike service of Guilherme Koepp and the net superiority of Aurelio Figueiredo to have a lead 8-5 and then 16-13. Iran coach Nawar Emad Eldin asked for a time out to motivate up his team and so he again had a good work in the net action by Mamdouh Abd El Rehim that decreased the point deficit gradually and ended the set narrowly 25-20.

Egypt recovered their rhythm in the third set and had the lead 5-0 due to the successful blocks of Elshemerly Mohamed and the hits of Tarek Elboghdady to lead again 8-5 and 16-14. The Brazilian coach Antonio Lerba tried to rebuild his team block against the efficient Egyptian attacks and the South Americans turned more active to end the set 25-23 through the good work of Tiago Wesz.
