Ankara, Turkey, August 15, 2011- After they succeeded in passing the first round to compete for the top eight positions, the coaches of the teams competing for the crown at the FIVB Girls’ Youth World Championship will start a new strategy when the second round gets under way on Tuesday at Baskent Hall in Ankara, Turkey.
The coaches were of one opinion that they should take it match by match as the competition will be more critical between the best teams all over the world at this age category. They stated that the situation has become more difficult with every team eyeing the trophy.
Here are the excerpts of the eight coaches’ statements ahead of the second round
Argentina coach Guillermo Caceres: “In general we are satisfied because we reached the second round, but it could have been better, too. We came here to get a lot of experience that we can’t have at home, we don’t play together so often, and so we have to find the right way to play, but in this kind of competition there’s no time, one loss and you’re out. In the next round we will face team like Turkey, and this will be an opportunity to play in front of thousands of people, another great chance for my players. China has a lot of experience, and their play is very different; Germany is very strong, as the others, so it will be hard, but we will play at the utmost.”
Brazil coach Mauricio Thomas: “We played well in this first round, our serve and block were good, but for the next matches we have to improve our reception and to do fewer mistakes. Now all the teams will be very strong, Poland is higher than us, stronger, for example; Japan plays in a complete different way, and we’ll have to adapt our schemes.”
China coach, Mang Chen: “I want to ask my players to keep coming up in the second round because it will more difficult for us than the first round. I don’t care with whom we will play against in the second round only I care about the performance of my players. We will concentrate on our first match against Argentina because they proved to be a good team in the first round.”
Germany coach Jens Tietbohl: “We will play against China, Turkey and Argentina in a very tough pool. The qualification itself has been a huge success because the pool was very difficult, we played against good teams. I can say that the World Championship is starting now, especially for us.”
Japan coach Yoshiharu Hayashi: “Tomorrow we will train to be ready for the next matches. I don’t want to say something is possible or impossible, but we will see in the future. We have to take it step by step”
Poland coach Andrzej Pec: “The first round has passed and now we have 8 very strong teams competing and no one can expect any result. Every match will be another story but we have to concentrate and forget our lose against Turkey in the last day of the first round and go forwards to meet japan in our first match. We have also to take it match by match in this critical stage.”
Serbia coach Milan Grsic: “We are very happy to pass the first round. What was positive is that we had two victories in the last two days of the first round in a very difficult group. We won two matches in this difficult group. My players have a good mentality and we wish to go on towards the final and we will start meeting Japan at Baskent Hall."
Turkey coach Sahin Catma: “We will play our first match in this stage against Germany who proved a big fight in the first round ad thus we have to improve more our performance to combat such strong teams in the second round. We have to think of our first match without thinking of the following one.”
