Cuban coach Orlando Samuels says: "We won but we made many mistakes"

Poland coach Daniel Castelani was not completely satisfied with his team's performance

Havana, Cuba, June 18, 2010 - Although the Cuban team defeated Poland in their first game of the FIVB World League, Cuban coach Orlando Samuels was not satisfied following the match on Friday.

Cuban Coach Orlando Samuels said he felt that his team played with many ups and downs, a lack of concentration and Poland played very well in the first set and the third. "In the fourth they failed to take this opportunity to end the game. We took the opportunity to draw and that influenced the start of the fifth set with better strength. We need to greatly improve our service and our focus on the game because it seemed lost on the court. Fortunately we made changes and kept those players in the field, which were decisive, along with the performance of Robertlandy Simon. I always knew that Poland would be our most difficult rival because of their history and quality of their coaches and athletes."

Daniel Castelani, Polish coach, congratulated Cuba and his coach for the win. "In the fourth set the Cubans never gave up. We help a bit at that time with many mistakes in attack but it is always difficult to establish how much one is wrong and what is the merit of another. The fourth set changed the game, and when you have to finish, you have to do it because it will strike back."

Cuban captain Robertlandy Simon said it was a very exciting match. "Both teams went out to fight for victory and I think even though we won Poland made a better game than us. We won but we must recognize that we made many mistakes in the serve and play mid-distance. I appreciate the support of public, which helped win this game."

Meanwhile, the Polish captain Piotr Gruszka found the game very exciting, "but unfortunately we lost. We played well until Simon awoke. With the good deeds that made the whole team played up, the crowd began to cheer on their team and from hence we were unable to develop our game. Tomorrow we have another chance and hopefully better results."
