The hosts made easy work of their opponents and won the first set following some solid blocking and several mistakes from the USA.

The USA improved in the second set but a strong fight from Russia saw them regain their momentum and win the set following a number of powerful serves from Maxim Mikhailov.

The visitors came alive in the third set winning it 25-21 before Russia secured the match despite a stubborn fight from the USA.

The U.S.A. now travel to Finland for the second round of the Intercontinental Rounds next week as Russia host Egypt in Kaliningrad.
