Russia one win away from Final Round

Finland pushed Russia close but the visitors overcame the hosts to move within one win of the 2010 FIVB World League Final Round

Tampere, Finland, July 2, 2010 - Russia are now within one win of the 2010 FIVB World League Final Round following a 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-14) win over Finland on Friday night in Tampere as the side picked up their ninth victory of this year's competition.

Finland started well with two aces from setter Eemi Tervaportti as Russia's nerves kicked in following a number of service errors.

Russia levelled the game at 12-12 thanks to a number of Dmtri Krasikov's serves and from there Russia went on the offense to pick up the first set.

Finland increased their attacking potential in the second set and went ahead again. However Russia took advantage of the poor Finnish reception and pulled themselves back into the game. A good variety of attacks from setter Sergey Grankin helped ignite the Russian offense and the side eventually went ahead 2-0.

Russia upped their blocking effort in the third set to close out a determined Finnish side. Substitute spiker Mikko Oivanen helped keep Finland within touch, however the Russian attack was too strong as the home side went down and Russia kept their Final Round dreams alive.
