Novi Sad, Serbia, July 2, 2010 - 2009 FIVB World League runners-up Serbia overcame France 3-1 (16-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-23) in their Pool B clash as the fifth weekend of the 2010 tournament continues in Novi Sad, Serbia.
Serbia started nervously and struggled to find the right rhythm early on. France used their powerful serve and sublime attacking to ensure an early lead as they took the first set, much to the home fans' annoyance.
The home side found their composure early on and went on to defend their lead in the second. France aimed to fight back but Serbia proved too strong and brought the match level.
There was a cautious start to the third set as both teams were eager to have the advantage. Serbia kept a three-point lead ahead of the visitors at the second technical time-out before France fought back to make the scores level once again. However Serbia used their time out efficiently and eventually broke down the French to go 2-1 up.
The fourth set was an even affair once again before Serbia went ahead by five points. France cut the gap to two but Serbia maintained their lead to see out the set and the match 3-1.
Sasa Starovic topped the scores with 24 points while Antonin Rouzier topped the visitors with 18 points.
