Trier, Germany, 26 June, 2010 - Cuba picked up their fourth win over Germany in the 2010 FIVB World League with a 3-1 (25-21, 26-24, 17-25, 25-22) victory in front of 2,200 spectators in Trier on Saturday afternoon, moving within touching distance of the Final Round of the tournament.
Cuba top Pool D with 18 points ahead of Germany who finish their weekend on 13 points ahead of Poland and Argentina. Germany's Georg Grozer and Cuba's Leon Wilfredo both topped the scores with 17 points.
Germany took the lead early on however after the second technical time out the Caribbeans came back and picked up the first set.
Germany took the lead again in the second set thanks to a number of solid blocks. But the Cubans found their rhythm once more to put a halt to the German momentum. After several substitutions from Germany coach Raúl Lozano the German team stabilized and even had a set point. However the Cubans dug deep to see out the set to take the game to 2-0.
For the third set in a row Germany started well, and Cuba looked desperate as coach Orlando Samuels Blackwood made several tactical changes. However it did not make a difference as Germany picked up the third set 25-17.
Cuba used their block to pull ahead early on in the fourth. The German attack had difficulty with their floor play and despite a solid defensive effort they succumbed to the visitors.
