Havana, Cuba, June 4, 2010 - Cuba began their FIVB World League with a 3-1 (25-23, 25-20, 21-25, 25-18) victory over Argentina in front of more than 10,000 fans at home in Havana on Friday.
The first set saw Cuba take advantage of the visitors' problems with serving and receiving as they clinched the set 25-23.
Argentina looked to rally back in the second set but were halted after a stunning performance from Cuba’s 17-year-old Wilfredo Leon who helped close out the set 25-20.
The third set saw Argentina punish the home side following a number of mistakes, however Cuba fought back in the fourth to seal the win in a tricky encounter.
The two sides will meet again on Saturday at 8.40pm local time for their second Pool D clash.
