USA wins thrilling five-set match against Belgium

USA team celebrate their big five set win

Singapore, Singapore, August 22, 2010 - In an explosive match between the two best teams of Pool B the USA picked up a 3-2 (22-25, 25-15, 20-25, 25-18, 11-15) win over Belgium after a two hours match in Toa Payoh Sports Hall, on the third day of the Youth Olympic Games.

The first set was very balanced, and until the end neither side seemed to have the edge, but the height and smartness of Elizabeth McMahon was the key point for the USA.

The second set was the opposite of the first, from the beginning Belgium led without problem, thanks to the absence of McMahon, substituted by Christal Gaff, and life was very easy for them.

The third set showed the balance of the two teams, with both of them alternating great rallies to and errors , but in the end the USA found the concentration to pick up the lead.

The fourth set started with Belgium up six points, captain and setter Ilka Van De Vyver with setter Laura Herman combining perfectly.

The hall was divided for the final set as USA and Belgium supporters were shouting for every point. USA tried to take the advantage but Belgium kept up with them until 11-12 until the Americans clinched the win.
