Lacklustrous Tunisia succumbs to humiliating defeat against second-string Germany

Tunisian Rahma Snoussi tries to drop the ball over a triple blockers of Germany.
Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, July 8, 2009 – Germany fielded a second-string team which included Sina Fuchs and Hannah Klemm to whip the African champions Tunisia in effortless straight sets 25-19 25-10 25-16.
Germany, sixth place in the European Championship, fought hard from the beginning of the first set to lead narrowly 12-10. Captain Anna Hoja uncorked a series of deadly spikes at the net to help stretch the lead to 22-17. Despite putting up a brave fight, Tunisia still proved no match against the tough rivals to go down in the set 19-25.
The second set became a totally one-sided battle when the Germans punctured the Tunisian defence into shreds with their exceptional spikes and scintillating blockings. Germany netted the set 25-10, again without much trouble.
The third set was very close from the beginning as Tunisia regrouped and hit back gallantly to tie the score at 8-8. However, Germany proved that it’s not easy to match them. They still performed superbly to stifle all Tunisia’s attempts of fightback. The Germans captured the set 25-16 and the easy match.
