Serbia pick up win against Italy

Italy try to block against Serbia as the home side lose their first game of the 2010 FIVB World League on Friday
Montecatini, Italy, June 18, 2010 - Serbia beat Italy 3-2 (20-25, 25-19, 25-16, 12-25, 15-12) in a five-set thriller to remain unbeaten on the top of the Pool B as the 2010 FIVB World League entered its third Intercontinental Round weekend on Friday night.

Serbia's Sasa Starovic topped the scores with 18 points, while Italy's Michal Lasko scored 16 points.

Italy started the match without libero Davide Marra - out for injury - but coach Andrea Anastasi will hope he recovers for the next match.

Serbia started well but Sasa Starovic fought back with six points to bring the set even. However Italy prevailed thanks to Luigi Mastrangelo and Gabriele Maruotti finishing off the first set 25-20.

Italy's serve suffered in the second set as Serbia pulled ahead with a 25-19 win before the hosts went behind in the third as Serbia won 25-16 to take the lead.

The fourth saw Italy come out strong and they duly won the set 25-12 to take it to a tie-breaker.

The final set went point-to-point but in the end Serbia picked up the win with a 15-12 victory.
Italy will aim for revenge on Sunday as the two sides face off again in Florence at 8.30pm local time.
