Italy beat China in straight sets

Italy celebrate the win over China in front of their home fans in Chieti
Chieti, Italy, June 11, 2010 – Italy claimed their third successive win in the 2010 FIVB World League with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-18) win over China at home in Chieti in front of 3,500 fans.

The side followed up from its opening Pool B victories over France last weekend in Parma and Modena with the win over the Asian side.

Despite China’s Chang Ping topping the scores with 15 points they could not see off the Italians, with Michal Lasko scoring 12 points for the home side.

Italy began the first set well and took an 11-7 lead. China fought back to bring the scores to 16-15 before Andrea Sala’s strong serves helped see out the set.

Some solid defense from Italy along with some strong blocks helped the hosts find their rhythm and although China tried to stay in touch, the result was never in the balance and the second set finished 25-18.

China continued to struggle in the third set and Italy improved their organization to eventually take the match.

However Italy coach Andrea Anastasi knows his team have to keep up the momentum in the next match.

"Matches against China are always dangerous and for this reason we have to maintain this rhythm in next match."

Italy sit second in Pool B behind Serbia will face China again on Sunday at 6pm local time in Ancona.
