Turkey scores a 3-1 win over Bulgaria

Tijuana, Mexico, July 16, 2009 – Turkey scored a 25-21, 19-25, 25-19, 25-10 victory over Bulgaria in the first match of Pool D of the FIVB Women’s Junior World Championship.

Busra Cansu led Turkey with 17 points, including three blocks and five aces, and Polen Uslupehlivan added 15, all via spikes. Dobriana Rabadzhieva topped Bulgaria with 16 points.

Bulgaria had a fine start led the spikes of Rabadzhieva taking a 6-3 lead but Turkey recovered behind some good hitting combined with a pair of aces by Cansu for an 8-7 advantage. At 10-10, Buyubayram and Karakoyun combined spike and block for a two- point lead and Turkey went to the pause with a 16-14 margin. The Turkish maintained the difference and finished the set 25-21 with two spikes by Uslupehlivan.

The Bulgarians went ahead 8-7 behind the spikes of Vasileva and Rabadzhieva, erasing the 7-6 of Turkey provided by two kills of Yildrim’s manufacture. Teams kept close and Turkey went ahead 16-15. At 18-all, Bulgaria sparked a 6-1 rally sparked by Boncheva’s spikes to win the second set 25-19.

Bulgaria arrived to the first pause ahead 8-6 carried by a 3-0 rally produced by spikes of Vasileva, Tsvetanova followed by a block of Ruseva. Turkey answered with a 4-0 rally of its own to take a 15-12 advantage and entered the second pause in front 16-13, on the shoulders of Cansu’s spikes and effective serves of Buyubayram. The rest of the set was comfortable for Turkey with Yildrim and Cansu taking care of it for a 25-19 final.

Turkey built a comfortable 8-3 gap in the fourth set and kept it rolling into the second pause where they arrived in front 16-7 with Uslupehlivan as the main source of power. There was nothing different the rest of the way with Cansu blocking and serving for a 25-10 victory
