China start with Korea in
quest for three-peat
Macau,
June 6, 2005 – Two-time champions China will start their
campaign to win the Youth Girls U19 World Championships for
the third time in a row with an exciting opening fixture
against Korea on the first day of the tournament, which is
due to take place in Macau from July 23-31, 2005, following
the completion of the Drawing of Lots ceremony at the MEAGOC
headquarters in Macau on Monday.

China, who win the tournament in 2003 and 2001, have been
drawn with Korea, who they beat in five sets 3-2 (25-22,
23-25, 23-25, 27-25, 15-9) in May in the final of the Asian
youth girls’ championship, the Ukraine and Austria in Pool B
while Pool C is potentially the most challenging of the four
pools with 1997 champions Brazil and 1989 and 1993 winners
Russia being joined by Belarus and Puerto Rico.
Joining the President of the Organizing Committee Mr. Manuel
Silvério in attendance for the Drawing of Lots ceremony for
the ninth edition of the Girls U18 World Championship were
Consul-general of Argentina Consulate Mr Ricardo Forrester,
Deputy Consul General of Consulate General of Italy Mr.
Davide Giglio, Consul of Consulate of the Republic of Korea
Mr. Ohm, Ki Sung, Consul of CG of the Russian Federation Mr.
Alexander Votchenko, the representative of the Chinese
Taipei Olympic Committee Mr. Chen Chung Hong and the
representative of the Ukraine Consul Mr. Benny Kwong.
The last time this biennial event took place - in Poland -
China beat Italy in the final with Brazil finishing third
ahead of the United States.
