An Easy Opener for Brazil
Brazil, one of the most successful teams in Girls' Under 18 World Championship's history, went easily through the opening match of 2003 tournament. A three-set victory over Belarus was reached without major problems as the Brazilians were prevailing in all elements. At the end Belarus broke down completely reaching for no more than 5 points.

Russia's Undisputed Victory
The Russian team, one of the favourites of 2003 Girls' Under 18 World Championship, began the tournament in style beating Egypt in straight sets. Only at the beginning of the first one the Egyptians made efforts to play a leveled game. Despite their ambitious attitude Russia had absolutely no problems with winning the first match of Pool B in the Preliminary Round.

United States beat Czech Republic 3-1 (22-25, 26-24, 25-20, 25-11) - duration 1:39

USA Came Back In Style To Beat Czech Republic.
The United States came back after losing the opening set to prevail over Czech Republic in four sets. The match brought a lot of emotions to the public as plenty of spectacular actions were involved. The second set was a crucial one. The Czechs had a 2:0 lead in their hands but lost two setballs and did not return to the game until the very end.

Uneasy Start For The Home Team
Poland's victory over Thailand was made in pains as the Asians showed no respect for the home team of the 8th Girls' Under 18 World Championship. Fortune was on the Polish side, especially in the first set, when the Poles came from 20:23 to 25:23 and in a tie-breaker in which Thailand resisted until the very last moments.
