Serbia crushes India and secures a berth in the semifinals

Uros Kovacevic was one of the top guns of Serbia

Serbia led 8-5 in the first set behind the actions of Kovacevic Atanasijevic. The Serbians improved their advantage to 13-6 behind another attack of Kovacevic. Block by Atanasijevic led to a 15-7 score and Serbia arrived to the second pause leading 16-8. Serbia won the set 25-17 when Omveer served too long. Serbia scored with four blocks and Kovacevic finished with six points and Atanasijevic and Milutinbovic had four apiece. Omveer carried most of the load for India recording seven points.

The strong blocking led Serbia to an 8-2 lead in the second set with Milutinovic scoring three times via blocks.  Play resumed and the wall of Serbia produced another point by Atanasijevic and Milutinovic continued with one ace for a 10-2 advantage. Peric and Omveer exchanged hits and Atanasijevic and Kovacevic continued with their offense. Another block by Milutinovic sent Serbia to the second stop leading 16-5. Serbia 25-14 with another long serve by Omveer.

Block by Ranjit broke a tie at 7-7 giving India the lead at the first technical time-out. Serbia tied at 11 with a spike by Kovacevic then took the lead via the same Kovacevic. India evened via error and went in front with spike of Ravikumar. Atanasijevic answered and Ravikumar and Omveer scored for a 15-13 lead. India arrived to the second pause leading 16-14. Two spikes of Atanasijevic and block by Kovacevic tied the score at 18-all. Serbia went in front when Jhon’s spike was out of bounds and increased the difference to 22-18 when Atanasijevic hammered a spike. Jhon connected twice for India for 22-20 but Atanasijevic was unstoppable. Kovacevic closed the match with a missile.
