Tunisia edges Spain for first victory

B. Ruiz scored three early points for Spain and Baos tipped for the 8-7 lead. Tunisia went in front on spike of Besbes but Spain tied 9-9 via Bugallo. Besbes scored again for 11-9 lead of Tunisia but B. Ruiz kept Spain close with consistent offense and the score was tied at 12-all. B. Ruiz scored on a quick attack and Spain went on to take a three-point lead at 15-12. Besbes scored for Tunisia and the difference disappeared via several Spain’s errors and Tunisia led 16-15. The opening frame ended 25-21 for Tunisia and 8 points for Besbes and 7 for B. Ruiz.

F. Ruiz scored with an ace and Almansa continued with a spike for an 8-6 lead for Spain. It was Almansa’s spike combined with a Tunisian service error that gave Spain the advantage 16-14. Almansa resumed with one serve dropped off the net. Spain increased the difference to 19-14 with a spike by Baos and ended up winning by score of 25-19.

Tunisia led 8-6 and 16-13 at the technical time-outs of the third set. Almansa hit a spike and the serve of Ben Othmen was too long closing the score 16-15. Then Siala scored and Spain committed one error for the three-point difference. Almansa and Ben Abdallah exchanged shots and the same players traded scoring tips. Corrales and Almansa combined to send Spain to within one point at 20-19 and Bugallo blocked for the tie. Bugallo again blocked for the 21-20 lead but Ben Abdallah tied for Tunisia with a right side spike. After a disputed Spain’s fault, Besbes scored for the 23-21 lead in favor of Tunisia whom won the set 25-23.

Spain led 8-7 and 16-12 at the mandatory stops. The Spaniards relied on very effective serves and converted four aces by Bruque, F. Ruiz, Bugallo and B. Ruiz. The Tunisian team made a variety of errors that translated into ten points for the opponent. F. Ruiz, who was some kind off, played with energy and enthusiasm and scored eight points to be the leader of Spain in this set capped by Bruque with his ace for the 25-16 win.

F. Ruiz started the tie-breaker with a spike and Tunisia tied via fault. F. Ruiz again scored and continued with one ace for a 3-1 lead. Besbes scored for Tunisia and Agrebi failed with his serve. Besbes scored with a tip and Almansa’s hit was out of bounds for the 4-4 tie. Almansa gave Spain the 6-5 advantage but Tunisia leveled the score again. B. Ruiz scored with quick attack but Ben Abdallah tied with a spike. Tunisia took the lead 8-7 when Besbes blocked the spike of F. Ruiz. Teams traded sides and F. Ruiz tied the score, Ben Abdallah scored and F. Ruiz responded. A block by Bugallo sent Spain in front 10-9 and Besbes tied. F. Ruiz broke the equaled score and Almansa served one ace for the 13-11 advantage. Besbes cut the distance and B. Ruiz capped a long rally with a spike for match-point at 14-12. Tunisia tied when Agrebi blocked F. Ruiz and Ben Abdallah won it with a left side spike.
