Team profile |
|
Since the inception of the Boys Youth World Championship, Brazil has conquered more titles than any other country: six in total(1989, 1991, 1993, 1995, 2001 and 2003). With such credentials and experience, Brazil is only thinking of another gold medal at the 2009 tournament.
Managed by head coach Percy Oncken, who has already captured four titles at this competition, the Brazilian Youth Team is comprised of many players who won silver at the South American Championship in 2008. Wing spiker Ary was named best player and best receiver at that tournament, while Eykman was named best setter.
Some famous players have cut their teeth with the team at the Boys Youth World Championship, Marcelo Negrão in 1989, Nalbert in 1991, Giba in 1993, Renato Felizardo in 1995, Samuel in 2001, and Thiago Alvez in 2003.
