Russia win gold to complete the double
Algiers,
Algeria, September 1, 2005 – Russia defeated Brazil in the
final on Thursday to claim the ninth Boys' U-19 World
Championship, their second FIVB trophy this season after
their victory in the Junior Men's tournament last month in
India also beating their arch rivals in the final. Russia
won the Boys' U-19 cup after a fantastic five set match
(17-25, 25-22, 17-25, 25-23, 15-11) against the Samba
Dancers here at Harcha hall in the Algerian capital. The
Russians deprived Brazil of gaining their fifth world title
this season after they had already claimed the Men's World
League, Women's Grand Prix, Junior Women's U 20 World
Championship and Girls' U 18 World Championship titles.

Brazil and Russia to contest final
Algiers,
Algeria, August 31, 2005 – Just like the older age category,
Brazil and Russia claimed the tickets for the final of the
ninth Boys U-19 World Championship after claiming victories
over Italy and Argentina respectively in a day full of
emotions, in the semifinals at Harcha hall in the Algerian
capital on Wednesday. Both big Volleyball countries were the
finalists in the Junior Men's U- 21 World Championship in
India last month, when Russia took the only Volleyball
trophy lost by the Samba Dancers this season. Brazil will
try to take the revenge when they meet their arch rivals in
the final on Thursday, while Russia aims to claim the
double. The losers of the semifinal Italy and Argentina will
also meet for the last place on the podium.

Brazil, Italy, Argentina
and Russia into semis
Algiers,
Algeria, August 30, 2005 – Brazil, Italy, Argentina and
Russia succeeded in qualifying for the semifinals of the
ninth Boys U-19 World Championship after recording big
victories over Poland, Iran, France and Slovakia in another
day full of drama, in the quarterfinals here at Harcha hall
in the Algerian capital on Tuesday. The defending champions
Brazil will now meet Italy in an early “final” of the
competition, while Argentina plays Russia in the other
semifinal on Wednesday.
Brazil used all of their Volleyball skills in attack and
defence to move one more step closer to defending their
title when they swept Poland 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 29-27).

Argentina-France most
important clash, defending champs seek another title
against Poland
Algiers,
Algeria, August 29, 2005 – Argentina and France will
feature in the most exciting face off in the
quarterfinals of the ninth Boys U-19 World Championship
to be held in Harcha Hall in the Algerian capital on
Tuesday. Other clashes see defending champions Brazil
take on Poland, Iran play Italy and Slovakia come up
against Russia. Argentina and France, who both had
positive results and victories beyond what they expected
earlier in the tournament, will try to continue their
successful path in the competition especially
considering that both have never qualified for the
semifinals with Argentina’s best being fifth position in
1991 and the best for France was the seventh position
achieved three times in 1991, 1997 and 2001.

Argentina, Iran,
Russia & Poland secure quarterfinal vacancies
Algiers,
Algeria, August 28, 2005 - Russia, Poland, Argentina and
Iran secured their tickets in the quarterfinals of the
ninth Boys U-19 World Championship here in Algiers and
Oran following victories over Bulgaria, Egypt, India and
Korea respectively in the play off round on Sunday. The
four teams will join Brazil, France, Slovakia and Italy
in the last four who will continue the competition on
Tuesday as the defending champions Brazil meet Poland;
while Argentina play France in the strongest match up in
the quarterfinals. The other matches will feature Iran
vs. Italy and Slovakia vs. Russia.

Fascinating clash between Italy and France in
playoffs
Algiers,
Algeria, August 27, 2005 - A fascinating clash between
Italy and France will feature as the most important
meeting in the play off round of the Ninth Boys U-19
World Championship on Sunday here in Algiers and Oran.
The two big European teams will meet in the play off
seeding as both teams ended the first round top of their
preliminary pools. In the same seeding the defending
champions Brazil will meet Slovakia searching for a new
victory towards their seventh title in history, both
matches in Harcha hall in Algiers.

Brazil, Italy, Slovakia and France top the pools
Algiers,
Algeria, August 26, 2005 - Only three teams posted
unbeaten records in the preliminary round of the ninth
Boys U-19 World Championship here in Algiers and Oran on
Friday as Slovakia in pool A, Brazil in pool B and
France in pool D collected their third successive
victories on day three to lead their pools with Italy
who lead pool C on points ratio although they lost to
India in the competition’s biggest surprise result. The
leaders of each of the pools qualified for the
quarterfinals and will play in the seeding play offs as
Slovakia meet Brazil on Sunday, while Italy play their
neighbours France. The play off elimination round will
feature Bulgaria vs. Russia and Poland vs. Egypt in Oran
and India vs. Argentina, Korea vs. Iran in Algiers.

Another day for samba dancers and second victory for
favorites
Algiers,
Algeria, August 25, 2005 - Again it was the day of the
samba dancers from Brazil in the ninth Boys U-19 World
Championship here in Algiers and Oran where they
attracted the emotions of the fans on day two of the
tournament collecting their second victory, beating
Bulgaria in a fantastic five-set match. Along with
Brazil, the big favorites Russia, France, Italy and
Slovakia achieved their second victory in a row to
secure a play off vacancy in front of FIVB Vice
President, Dr. Amr Elwani.

Hosts lose as favorites show
consistency
Algiers, Algeria, August 24,
2005 - In a day full of thrills
and exciting matches the defending champions Brazil and all
the favoured teams had comfortable victories on the opening
day
of the ninth Boys U-19 World Championship here in Algiers
and Oran. Defeating Argentina in straight sets, Brazil
showed their consistency from the start with Russia, France,
and Slovakia. Poland and Egypt both had very difficult
victories over the emerging Indians and the hosts Algeria in five sets.
