Drawing of Lots completed - Algeria v Egypt on opening day

Alger, Algeria, May 26, 2005 – A fascinating clash between hosts Algeria and near neighbours Egypt will be the feature match on the opening day of the Youth Boys' U19 World Championships, which is due to take place in Alger and Oran from August 24 – September 1, 2005, following the completion of the Drawing of Lots ceremony on Thursday in the Safir hotel in Alger.

With local politicians, athletes, media - including national television company ENTV who covered the event live - and diplomatic ambassadors from the different participating countries all in attendance, the Drawing of Lots ceremony for the ninth edition of the Youth Boys' U19 World Championships, which is being organised by Algeria for the first time, was supervised by FIVB Controller Mr Franz Schmied in the presence of Algeria Volleyball Federation President Mr Gougam Houkba.

Besides the all-African clash, the opening day also sees defending champions Brazil play their neighbours Argentina, while one of the most intriguing contests will be 2003 bronze medallists Iran taking on Russia, who finished fifth two years ago.

Sixteen countries will participate in the tournament, which offers an outstanding opportunity for the Volleyball youth around the world to take the international stage and represent their country against their fellow peers.

Brazil have won six of the eight editions since the first one in 1989 in the United Arab Emirates. Russia and Italy are the only other two countries to have claimed the U19 World Championship title having won in 1999 and 1997 respectively.

Pool A: Korea, Slovakia, Egypt, Algeria
Pool B: Argentina, Bulgaria, Mexico, Brazil
Pool C: Poland, Canada, Italy, India
Pool D: France, Tunisia, Russia, Iran
