GROUP 3 FINALS
BURSA, TURKEY - JUNE 28 & 29

Following the an intense few weeks of Intercontinental Round matches in Poolsl F & G, Cuba won the gold medal at the World League Group 3 Finals after a hard fought win against hosts Turkey in a thrilling marathon of five sets 3-2 (24-26, 25-19, 20-25, 25-21, 16-14).  

China claimed third position after they beat Slovakia 3-1 (21-25, 39-37, 25-23, 25-19).


Host Country: Turkey

Turkey is located in Anatolia and the Balkans, adjacent to the Black Sea, between Bulgaria and Georgia. It also borders the Mediterranean Sea and the Aegean Sea, between Greece and Syria. Turkey is an old hand at holding international volleyball tournaments, having hosted various European senior level tournaments as well as age-group championships.

The 2013 FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship was held in Turkey for ten days, and was the first edition of the tournament that featured 20 teams. Ankara was also the host of the 2011 FIVB Girls Youth Volleyball World Championship in August 2011 which saw the participation of 16 teams in the tournament.


Host City: Bursa

Bursa is located in the northwest of the Anatolian area of Turkey, southeast of the Marmara Sea. It is the one of the most populous cities in Turkey, with a population of over 2.5 million, and one of the country’s most industrialised metropolitan centres.

While this is the first time it will host a final of the FIVB World League, the city of Bursa has hosted matches of the 2013 CEV Volleyball European League for women.


Venue: Cengiz Göllü Volleyball Hall

The Cengiz Göllü Volleyball Hall is a first-class sporting venue named after Cengiz Göllü, a former head coach of Turkey women’s national team who dedicated most of his life to volleyball and was officially opened in June 2013.

The sports hall is expected to seat 7,600 people during the Group 3 Finals of the 2014 FIVB World League. The Hall includes a press meeting room, press working areas, and working rooms for international delegates. Plans include the construction of a hotel and a center for dry-land training and physical conditioning.
