Sergey Tetyukhin: we had no doubts about our victory

Russia were too strong for Japan

Russian Captain Sergey Tetyukhin: We had no doubts about our victory over Japan. The coach gave me some rest today because I hade a little problem with my health. I was really happy to see my teammates doing well from the bench.

Russian Head coach Daniele Bagnoli: It was a surprise not to see Kunihiro Shimizu on the court. We were preparing to play against him. With changes in the roster Japan became stronger in reception but weaker in attack and block. The difference between the teams were too big tonight. That’s why It’s hard to evaluate this game. It’s easier to play well when you are ahead in the score like it was tonight. I want my players playing in the same level when they are neck-and-neck with the opponent or even behind by some points.

Japan Captain Daisuke Usami:  It was terrible game for us. We failed to play with some changes in our system. That was the main reason we played so poorly today.

Japan Head Coach Tatsuya Ueta: We had to change our system of playing as we missed two of our key players - Yu Koshikawa and Kunihiro Shimizu, both injured. But we had some troubles to adjust to it. But still it was the Russians who played well tonight and deserved the win. I think they had a right tactical plan for the match.
