Cuban coach: More teamwork needed

Havana, June 13, 2009 – Cuban Head Coach Orlando Samuels said that despite his team's win over Bulgaria in the opening game of the 2009 World League, his players need to improve their teamwork if further successes at the tournament are to come.

Orlando Samuels: "I congratulate my players for their determination. They lost the first set, but they didn't give up and improved their serves, especially Rolando Cepeda. He played very well and he was our key player. Nevertheless, he needs to improve his blocking. Sincerely, we are very happy with this victory."

Bulgaria Head Coach Silvano Prandi: "As I expected, the service game was decisive. Cuba served better than we did and we commited a lot of mistakes. Also, Cuba are very strong physically. We can't beat them in that aspect because they have an exceptional physical program."

Cuban Captain Roberlandy Simon: "We were determined to do our best. Our main goal was the victory and we'll try to win the second match too. We are very happy with the support of our fans. Bulgaria is a great team, so beating them will increase our hopes to qualify for the Final Round. We need to improve our blocking and defense."

Bulgarian Captain Andrey Zhekov: "Cuba had a such strong service and we couldn't respond to it. We hope to play at higher level in the second game and to leave Cuba with one win."
