Finland Captain Jukka Lehtonen: "We started normally
and took advantage of the lack of decision-making in the Venezuelan attack, but
in the middle of the set, we committed frequent mistakes, mainly in the
services. Our team is very young, we are learning from our mistakes. We are
very sorry for this. We hope we can perform much better in the second
match."
Venezuela Captain Andy Rojas: "We are quite happy
with this victory. We know for certain Finland plays at a very high level. In
the near future our young talents will develop into stars. We started our
overall preparations 12 days ago. The taste of this triumph is sweet since we
worked hard. There were all kinds of expectations. Many players have not
reached their peak performance, but little by little, starting with this win,
the stage is set for more good news."
Finland Head Coach Mauro Berruto: "Congratulations
to Venezuela for this victory. The most important moment was the first set, in
which we took the lead. My players committed so many mistakes. Venezuela is an
experienced team, with pappearances in World Championships, World Leagues and
in the last Olympic Games. I am totally convinced we are going to play much
better in the coming match."
Venezuela Head Coach Jose Gutierrez: "Our captain
has best described our performance. What made the difference were the mistakes
in serving. We made fewer mistakes but we remained calm, which was necessary to
make the quickest and best decisions."
