USA captain William Priddy: “This
is certainly not how we wanted to start this tournament. We made a
lot of errors, while the Polish team played well. It is always very
difficult to win the game on this level with these two things
happening.”
“We are very happy that we played
such a good match. The thing that coach Anastasi said during the
press conference before the tournament, that we would fight for every
ball in these matches, it definitely came true today. We showed what
kind of team we are, we showed a lot of character. We know that
tomorrow we will have a totally different game. The USA is a very
good team; we realize it will not be easy, so we can't be sure we
will win again,” said Polish captain Michal Bakiewicz.
American head coach Alan Knipe: "It was
definitely a disappointing night. We obviously wanted to play better.
Poland was great tonight, they played better in every area. Our team
has a lot to show, which they didn't do today. We didn't play very
well and it is a disappointment for us.”
“I am very happy because we started
this year's World League with a victory. We fought for every ball and
we will continue to do so in the next game. Tomorrow, it will be a
different game. The U.S. team is great and I have a lot of respect
for the coach, my friend, Alan Knipe and his team, because it was
their first game after a long journey. I think they will be able to
recover and tomorrow will not be an easy day,” said Poland's head
coach, Andrea Anastasi.
