Rezende: I have a big respect to the American system of play
Brazil's Giba and coach Bernardo Rezende
USA captain William Priddy: “We are disappointed as we wanted to remain in this tournament and qualify for the semifinals. We have one more match to play here and against Russia we want to take as much experience as possible. Regarding the competition venue – it’s a nice facility but it looks like it’s difficult to see the court lines because of some strange decisions of the referees.”
Brazil captain Gilberto Godoy Filho (Giba): “Playing against USA is always very difficult. They are Olympic champions and they know how to play with us. But we won and we have to forget this match. There’s another great team ahead of us – Russia and it will be the next difficult step on the road to the title.”
USA coach Alan Knipe: “Congratulations to the Brazilian team. We were trying to sustain pressure, we won the first set. In the next they achieved advantage till the first TTO and we were trying to catch them. Being honest, I thought we could have done better than that, but playing against Brazil is always hard.”
Brazil coach Bernardo Rezende: “I have big respect for the American system of play. They know how to control the game and they play with great intelligence. If we want to win here, we have to play as we did in the second, third and fourth set today – each point, fully focused. We are happy that we are still in the game. Regarding tomorrow’s match against Russia, we have to control their strong serve and find a solution for their tall blockers. I will probably change 1-2 players, to give them an opportunity to play. I will need the whole team in the decisive moments of this tournament."
