Brazil's second win put down to experience

Brazilian players celebrate their second victory in the opening weekend of the FIVB World League

Gilberto “Giba” Godoy, captain of Brazil: “Today we made many mistakes and Puerto Rico played better defense. It was a tough match. I think that our experience allowed us to close the sets.”

Hector “Picky” Soto, captain of Puerto Rico: “It is a bittersweet sensation. We had the opportunity to extend the match a little bit more. The chances were there but we couldn’t take advantage of them. We improved our game compared to yesterday and Brazil made more errors after a game [yesterday] of only six or seven. I saw progress in our game and I think we are on the right road.”

Carlos Cardona, coach of Puerto Rico: “Brazil had the merit to win the match. We made some key errors but overall we raised the quality of our game, playing with more precision. It helped that Brazil was erratic today, very different than yesterday. We couldn’t close the last two sets but we are growing up.”

Bernardo Rezende, coach of Brazil: “Puerto Rico played a good match and both teams made mistakes, maybe as a consequence of the pressure that each side put on the other. The serves of Puerto Rico improved and gave us some problems. We have many players and need to do some testing and that was the reason for some changes tonight. Today, Giba made too many mistakes. We are not the strongest team physically so we need to play good volleyball technically and tactically. Puerto Rico played a good match but maybe our experience was the deciding factor.”
