Cuba clinch win in Paris

Samuele Tuia scored 15 points for France
Paris, France, June 11, 2011 – Cuba scored its sixth win in the 2011 FIVB Volleyball World League on Friday with a 3-2 (21-25, 25-22, 21-25, 25-22, 15-12) win over hosts France in Paris.

France started well through Antonin Rouzier and Samuele Tuia’s blocking before Cuba coach Samuel Blackwood called for a time out. France continued to lead at 15-10 and despite a fightback from Cuba the home side took the first set.

The second set was equally as close early on before Cuba sprinted to the lead. France tried to come closer but was unable to narrow the gap before a spike in the center brings the scores level.

French mistakes littered the early part of the third as Cuba took an easy lead. However two strong serves from Moreau brought France ahead again. Rouzier and Wilfredo Leon continue to battle at the net before a Samuele Tuia block and a serve from Hardy-Dessources grants them the win.

Cuba made a good start in the fourth and increased their hitting power to advance. The visitors made the French make mistakes and the visitors, led by Leon, eventually clinched the set to take it to a tie break.

France led the fifth early on at 5-3 and 11-10. But Rouzier missed a spike and Cuba took advantage as Leon and his teammaters concluded the match.

The two teams will meet again on Sunday at 17:00 GMT.
