Italy dominate France in three sets

Italy's monster block was crucial in their win over France
Lyon, France, May 27, 2011 – Italy clinched their first win of the 2011 FIVB Volleyball World League with a straight sets (25-14, 25-20, 25-12) win over France in Lyon on Friday.

The Italians were stronger in all areas of the game as Michal Lasko shone through with eight aces and 12 blocks.

Italy took a quick lead in the first set following France’s difficulty in reception. On the first set, the Italians took the lead  before their blockers easily saw the game off.

Antonin Rouzier came out flying for the hosts as they stayed close to their opponents in the second. But serves were the difference in the second set as the visitors locked down their opponents.

Italian middle blocker Emauele Birarelli was instrumental in the third as the French fell to pieces. Despite a last-gasp grasp at a comeback, it was the Italians celebrating as they clinched the straight sets win.

The two sides will meet gain on Sunday.
