Brazil score fourth win in World League with victory over Poland

With the victory over Poland on Sunday, Brazil remain unbeaten in the 2011 FIVB Volleyball World League
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, June 5, 2011 – Brazil overcame Poland in an electrifying game on Sunday 3-1 (28-26, 23-25, 26-24, 25-23) in the 2011 FIVB Volleyball World League in Rio de Janeiro.

Brazil was led by wing spiker Murilo Endres with 17 points. Polish wing spiker Bartoz Kurek topped the scores with 28 points.

The hosts improved their win-loss record to 4-0 and secured their hold on Pool A. Poland now fall to a win-loss record of 1-3. Russia and Italy are the only other teams who remain unbeaten in this year's edition of the tournament.

Brazil started with a different formation from Saturday's match with the Endres brothers Endres, middle blocker Gustavo and wing spiker Murilo replacing Rodrigão and João Paulo Bravo respectively. The teams began the set solidily before well-worked blocks from Gustavo saw Brazil take a two point lead as his side eventually went on to take the first set.

Poland were stronger in the second and took a three point lead. The hosts tried to fight back towards the end of the set but the visitors held on to bring the scores level.

The nine time champions regained control of the match in the third set with good serves and an efficient block. The Polish didn´t relinquish control easily however, but the hosts held on to steal back the lead.

Brazil however were in complete control in the fourth set as they put on an amazing performance to close the game in front of almost 10.000 fans.

Brazil will now host Olympic champions USA next weekend while Poland travel to San Juan to take on Puerto Rico.
