Korea down France for another huge victory

The Korean players celebrate their win over France.

Suwon, Korea, June 4, 2011 – Korea scored another big victory in the 2011 FIVB World League on Saturday with a 3-1 (25-21, 24-26, 25-20, 25-16) win over France.

The victory followed on from last week’s triumph over Cuba – their first in 27 years – which was also played in Suwon.

France’s usually precise technical game plan was disrupted by tiredness caused by the long flight from Paris and they were unable to show their usual power. Korea, meanwhile, were still on a high following their win over Cuba last week and were pushed along by the cheering of the home fans.

Korea utilised their younger players’ powers and showed strong serves and speedy attacks.

Marien Moreau led a French fightback in the second set with strong spiking and France were able to edge Korea 26-24.

But in the third set, Korea struck back with powerful back attacks and great blocking.

In the fourth set, Korea was even more dominant, winning by a margin of nine points to cap off a very focused performance and remind their rivals that Korea is very much a dark horse in Pool D.
