Brazil won 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-15) at Ibirapuera Gymnasium in Sao Pauloon Sunday, after winning the opener on Saturday 3-1.

Brazilian wing-spiker Thiago Alves was the top scorer of the match with 14 points, all from spikes. For the Polish side, wing-spiker Zbigniew Bartman was the best player with 11 points - 10 from spikes and one block.

Both teams started the match with different formations from Saturday's game. Brazilian coach Bernardo Rezende replaced wing-spiker Joao Paulo and middle-blocker Eder Carbonera with Thiago Alves and Sidao, respectively.

Argentinean Daniel Castellani, who coaches the Polish team, swapped Grzegorz Lomacz, Jakub Jarosz and the injured Bartosz Kurek for Pawel Woicki, Marcel Gromadowski and Bartman.

With good blocks and a serve that hit the line by middle-blocker Lucas Saaktamp, Brazil achieved an early 6-2 lead. With efficient spiking and a good service game, Brazil opened up a 17-12 lead after the second technical timeout, when Sidao scored two serves in a row. The first set was closed 25-20 with a faulty serve from Poland.

Keeping the same rhythm as the first set, Brazil did not take long to take control. The world champs went into the first technical timeout with an 8-5 lead when Jarosz served out. Poland found its game and tied the match at 13-13 when Marcin Mozdzonek scored on a serve, before taking a 16-15 lead when Brazilian opposite Rivaldo spiked into the net. But Brazil came back and won the second set 25-20 with Rivaldo spiking.

A great performance from wing-spiker Thiago Alves gave Brazil control in the beginning of the third set, as the hosts won the first five points. Keeping a safe lead during the entire set, Brazil went to the second technical timeout up 16-10. In the end, opposite Leandro Vissoto spiked to put the match on ice, 25-15.

In the second weekend of the 2009 FIVB World League, Brazil will face Finland at Nilson Nelson Gymnasium in Brasília, Brazil. The matches will be played on June 19 and 20th. Poland will remain in South America as the European team will play against Venezuela on the 19th and 21st at Jose Maria Vargas Gymnasium in Caracas.
