Germany and Japan look to end on a high

Germany captain Robert Kromm (spiking) said he was proud of his team on Thursday
Stuttgart, Germany, July 1, 2011 – Germany and Japan are set to face off in their final match of the 2011 FIVB Volleyball World League in Stuttgart on Friday and although neither a place in the Final Round or Playoffs is on the line, both will be eager to end their campaign on a high.

Despite a bad start the hosts picked up the win on Thursday night and dominated particularly in service, block and defence.

Captain Robert Kromm was proud of his team: “It was not easy for us, after we were not able to qualify for the final round any more. For that reason I am very happy and proud of my team how we came back into the match.”

The German block as well as an excellent disposed middle blocker Marcus Böhme made the difference. Another player who stood out was libero Markus Steuerwald who Kromm said had “a very strong performance in reception and defence.”

The Japanese started strongly but could not maintain their level. After more than 40 days in Europe the Asian side look to be suffering from tiredness.

The two teams will clash at 17:00 GMT.
