Serbia aiming for Final Round but need to get past Argentina

Marko Podrascanin in attack

Belgrade, June 30, 2011 – The second match between Serbia and Argentina on Thursday in Pool C of the 2011 FIVB Volleyball World League will be yet another chance for Serbia to win and secure its place in the final phase in Gdansk-Sopot, Poland.

The Serbs are desperate to win another three points to make sure they are safe for the final stage, which is their most important goal.

“We knew this would be a very difficult match, since both teams need a victory to go to the final stage,” said Serbia’s Marko Podrascanin. “I have to say we had great support from our fans; they cheered us up during the entire match.

“This victory is a very important one and I know the next match will be harder and more difficult. Our goal is to win it and we won’t think of anything else. We’ve played poorly this season, but we still have a chance to go to Poland, which is our most important goal.”

Argentina’s Facundo Conte is hoping his team can raise their level and secure the points they need.

“We hope we will play better in tomorrow’s match and we will really try for the win, because tonight we didn’t show our best,” he admitted. “We can do better.”

“The way we played wasn’t so good. We made many mistakes, which cost us the match. For tomorrow, we have to try to win; that is our goal, and I think we have enough power to do that.”
