Poland, Venezuela prepared for final meeting

Poland celebrates

Wroclaw, Poland, July 4, 2009 - The fourth and final meeting between Poland and Venezuela in the 2009 FIVB World League is scheduled for Saturday.

The Poles showed no mercy by humiliating their rivals in straight sets on Friday. The home team started the match sharply, easily winning the first set, and never looked back.

Head coach of the Polish team, Daniel Castellani, showed no fear by replacing his most experienced players Krzysztof Ignaczak and Wojciech Grzyb with teenagers Pawel Zatorski and Karol Klos. Libero Zatorski debuted last week, playing one set against Brazil.

It was the first game in the Polish senior squad for Klos. Both teens passed the exam in convincing style. Poland still believes it has a shot at obtaining a wild card berth in the Final Round in Belgrade, but to make that possible they have to finish runners-up in Pool D to runaway leaders Brazil.

To do that, they must get another win over Venezuela on Saturday and then battle with Finland for second over the last two weeks of the intercontinental phase of the World League.

Jose A. Gutierrez and his men will surely do everything they can to make it difficult to the Poles, although they already look quite tired. Poland will be the clear favorite on Saturday and will do their best to satisfy more than 5,500 fans by sweeping Venezuela at this year's competition.
