Russia eye Final Round spot

Japan and Russia will clash on Saturday and Sunday
Surgut, Russia, June 16, 2011 – After two straight victories over Japan in Ufa two weekends ago, the Russians are looking forward to another two-game series against the same side this weekend in Surgut as they look to continue their unbeaten run in this year’s FIVB Volleyball World League.

If Vladimir Alekno’s team beat the visitors twice this weekend it will all but guarantee them a place in the Final Round, set to take place from July 6 to 10 in Gdansk-Sopot, Poland.

However they will have to do it without Sergey Grankin and Dmitry Muserskiy who will sit this weekend out due to injuries.

Japan is looking to defeat Russia after having beaten Germany in Friedrichshafen in their final match last weekend.

It was their first victory in this year’s World League and Japanese captain Daisuke Usami hopes that course will continue.
