Korea aiming for first final round since 1995

Korea players celebrate after sealing their first win over Cuba in almost three decades in their opening 2011 FIVB Volleyball World League encounter on the first weekend of the tournament
Gwangju, Korea, June 15, 2011 – With half the matches gone in the 2011 FIVB Volleyball World League now gone, Korea proudly sit second in Pool D and welcome the languishing Cuba to Gwangju for their second clash this weekend.

Star players such as Kwang-In Jeon, third best scorer, Hong-Suk Choi, seventh best spiker, Oh-Hyun Yeo, seventh best diggers and best receiver and Sun-Soo Han, who is the best setters have been monumental for their team but will need to continue their good work if they have any chance of making the final round in Gdansk-Sopot, Poland.

The last time these two teams clashed on the first weekend of competition they split the honours, winning one match apiece with the hosts breaking a 28-year losing streak in Suwon.

In this Saturday’s match Korea will have to reward its fans by earning victory to keep alive any hopes of a first final round since 1995.
