Serbia and Argentina have played each other a dozen times
at the biggest international competitions, including the Olympic Games, World
Championships, Grand Champions Cup, and World League.
Serbia (Yugoslavia, Serbia and Montenegro) have a
commanding lead in the head to heads, winning 10 times against two losses, with
a set difference of 34-16.
In World League competition, Serbia and Argentina have
met eight times, being drawn into the same Intercontinental Round pool twice
(2000 and 2005). Serbia managed to win six of those eight matches, with a set
difference of 22-12.
"I hope we play better than last week in Korea. The
fact that we are playing at home, in front of our home crowd, is very
important. Our adversaries played two fantastic matches in France, and they are
coming here with great confidence. We don't know them that well, but I'm sure
we will prepare for the matches and we will do our best not to disappoint our
fans" Serbian player Sasa Starovic said.
"We host the team who, maybe, has been the top
performer so far in our pool," asdded Serbia's assistant coach Zeljko
Bulatovic. "It is obvious that they are very persistent and fight until
the last point. The Argentinean team is a mixture of youth and experience and
the players possess great quality, which is expected of a country with such a
prestigious volleyball tradition.
"We will try to include some of the older players in
our lineup, because it is high time we started completing our team roster and
getting a clear picture of our possibilities before the Final Tournament."
