Russia expect resurgent Germany

Russia celebrates as they beat Japan in their second 2011 FIVB Volleyball World League match last weekend
Kaliningrad, Russia, June 1, 2011 - One week after beating Japan in their first two matches of the 2011 FIVB Volleyball World League, Russia will host Germany at home in Kaliningrad looking to take complete control of Pool B.

The first match will be played at SK Yantarny on Friday evening at 15:00 GMT.

In the opening weekend in Bulgaria the Germans won their first match before losing the second, thus scoring three points as Russia topped Pool B with six.

The German coach Raul Lozano is aiming to improve the technique of his young players and expects a tough set of matches against the Russians.

Russia will be missing some of its key players including Semen Poltavskiy and Sergey Makarov. Yuriy Berezhko has recently started training following his injury.

However, a number of  young athletes stepped up during the first weekend, the most impressive of which was Dmitriy Muserskiy, who scored 14 points and a newcomer Alexey Spiridonov, who topped the scores with 16 points.
