Middle blocker David Smith can add international success to his ever-growing national success with team USA. Smith is currently playing in Spain for the Unicaja Almeria club team. The team, part of the Spanish league, finished the regular season as the top seeds.
In his two years post graduation from UC Irvine, Smith (201cm, 86kg) has earned a gold medal with the US at the 2010 Pan American Cup. Davis was the United States’ fourth-leading scorer and 18th among all scorers. Smith also took home a gold medal from the 2010 World Championship Qualifier.
Smith was born in 1985 in Saugus, California to parents Ricky and Nancy Smith. In 2008, Smith married wife, Kelli, an assistant coach for the Vanguard University cross country team. Smith was born with mild-to-severe hearing loss. He wears hearing aids to assist him on and off the court.
