  Joao Simoes was born in 1987 in Alcobaça, and started to play at the age of 12 in SO Marinhense where he remained for five years.

After another five years playing for Esmoriz GC, with whom he won a Junior National Championship, he now plays for Castelo da Maia GC, helping take them to a Portuguese Cup and one Super Cup. The 194-cm universal was first called to represent portugal for the junior national team in 2004 and was shaped in the youth and junior national teams.
