In 1996, Raphael won the Brazilian Youth National States Championship and, in the following two years, became a National Junior Champion. In 1999. he helped Brazil to bronze at the FIVB Junior World Championships. In 2004, he played his last season in the Superliga, coming second with Ulbra (RS). Raphael then moved to Russia, to play for Dinamo Moscow. In 2005, Raphael began his career with the Brazilian senior team and won gold in the South American Championship. The following year, Raphael moved to Italy to play for Callipo Sport. He then Moved to Trentino and won the European Champions League 2011 for the team as well as two FIVB Volleyball Men's Club World Championships.
