Winner of the 2007/08 and 2008/09 editions of the Brazilian Superliga, libero Mario Jr. is a title collector in the young categories. In 1998, he won the Youth National Championship for Rio de Janeiro’s team. The following year, he claimed third. In 2001, he won the Junior title of the National Championship. In 2009, he was called up to Brazilian national team and won the World League, the World Grand Champions Cup and the South American Championship. He started the 2010 season winning the World League title and was named best libero of the tournament. He also shined in the World Championships, won in the same season.
