Giba was the best player in the Olympic Games in Athens, in 2004, when Brazil won its second title. He has won the World Cup (2003), and the World League eight times (2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010). He played for the Brazilian junior team, winning the South American Championship (94), and coming second at the FIVB Volleyball Men's Junior World Championship (95). FOr the the Brazilian youth team he won the World Championship, in 93. He was the champion of the Superliga in 1999/00 and 2000/01. Giba has also been world champion three times: in 2002, 2006 and 2010, being elected MVP in 2006. In 2007, he won the Pan-American Games, in Rio de Janeiro, where he was captain of the Brazilian team. In the same year, he won the gold medal at the South American Championship, and was the best player of the competition. He went on to win another World Cup in 2007, taking the MVP prize as well. In 2008, he was silver medallist at the Beijing Olympic Games and was elected as the best server of the World League. In 2009, Giba led Brazil’s renewed team in the World League, the World Grand Champions Cup and the South American Championship.
