This is the first year on the U.S. Men’s National Team for middle blocker Russell Holmes (Fountain Valley, Calif.), who played for Brigham Young University in 2005-08. As a senior at BYU, he started in all 30 matches and all 113 games. He was named an AVCA First-Team All-American in 2008 and also earned All-MPSF First Team accolades. He finished the season fourth in the nation in hitting percentage at 0.454 and second in the nation averaging 1.52 blocks per game.
Holmes was born in Anaheim, Calif. His parents are Mark and Tami Holmes. He is married to Julie and has a daughter, Sadie Rae, born in June 2007.
