Match could have been won by either team

.

Italy captain Valerio Vermiglio: "We had a very bad first set. I think it was our nerves playing again the Final Round after seven years. We played a great match but the key to our defeat was between points five and eight of the last set."

Italy coach Andrea Anastasi: "Russia played outstanding. We will try to give our best on Friday against Cuba."

Dmitriy Muserskiy, second best scorer for Russia with 17 points: "It is the first time in my life that I play a Final Round. It is an incredible experience and a very hard one, Italy played very well."

Russia coach Daniele Bagnoli: "The first match is very special for both teams. I am very happy with the result but we can not make 27 mistakes serving. We had good figures spiking but when fighting point-by-point we knew that any of the teams could win. The key was to have a good series of points, adding 3-4 every time together."
